SmartDetector privacy policy

What we process

We process account names, login credentials, workspace membership, connected device information, camera event timestamps, sampled camera images, object detections, and AI observations to provide the service. Optional people recognition processes consenting individuals’ names and face reference features. TV pairing uses a scoped display credential. Operational logs may include IP addresses and error information. Billing is handled through Stripe when enabled.

Camera images and retention

By default, saved event records and their sampled images expire after 24 hours. Unsubscribed workspaces cannot extend this period. An active paid workspace may explicitly choose 1–365 days in Settings. Subscribing alone does not extend retention. Increasing retention does not restore expired images or extend existing event deadlines. Shortening retention hides older evidence immediately; background cleanup removes stored copies. Database expiry and backups are not instantaneous.

This is temporary storage, not “no data collection.” Account records, configuration, billing records, explicitly enrolled face reference features, and operational records have separate lifetimes and are not automatically erased after 24 hours. Original Ring recordings remain under Ring’s controls. SmartDetector AutoVision analysis jobs have a separate retention lifecycle from SmartDetector event history.

Service providers and permissions

Depending on your configuration, data is processed by Ring, SmartDetector AutoVision, AWS (including Bedrock for optional AI analysis), and configured notification providers. Enabled analysis may transfer sampled images to these services. Notifications may contain event details. SmartDetector’s retention setting cannot erase messages already delivered or other providers’ independent records. Camera access requires the applicable connection authorization; disconnecting a TV does not delete its workspace history.

SmartDetector AutoVision and event image analysis

Solodev operates and maintains both SmartDetector and SmartDetector AutoVision. AutoVision is our internal analysis service at autovision.dev, hosted in the same Solodev AWS account and Region (us-east-1) as the hosted SmartDetector service. It is not an independently operated analysis vendor. Private installations may configure a different service endpoint.

When authorized Ring media is available and analysis is performed, SmartDetector sends sampled camera frames to AutoVision using an authenticated service connection. AutoVision returns visual observations and retains analysis records and reduced-size previews separately from SmartDetector history. These records expire after seven days and are then removed by automatic database cleanup; physical cleanup can lag expiry, and backup copies have a separate retention lifecycle. SmartDetector history purge does not currently request deletion of the corresponding AutoVision jobs. Not every Ring event has available images or completes analysis. General event analysis does not enroll faces or enable people recognition.

Optional people recognition and consent

Creating a name or Family label does not enroll a face. Recognition requires a separate administrator-confirmed enrollment using a saved camera frame with a detected person and configured face-measurement models. The administrator must confirm the person’s explicit consent; we record the confirming administrator and time. AutoVision processes the selected frame to measure the face. SmartDetector stores an encrypted model identifier and numerical face reference, not a separate enrollment photo. The source event image retains its normal event lifetime.

The face reference remains if its source event expires. Purge saved data also deletes People profiles, consent records and enrolled face references. An administrator can turn off recognition in People → Preferences to remove the reference, or delete the person. Replacing a reference requires confirmation. Matching can be incorrect and is not identity verification. See the separate history and account deletion scopes below.

Optional Amazon Bedrock processing

SmartDetector’s event-summary path sends selected derived observations as text to Bedrock, without sampled image contents, face references, device identifiers, timestamps or audio transcripts. Separately, enabled AutoVision image classification or enhanced inspection may send sampled images or cropped or brightened copies and relevant analysis context to Bedrock. These are distinct processing paths. SmartDetector’s image-analysis and face-measurement requests do not include camera audio or audio transcripts.

Your choices

Workspace administrators can purge collected history without deleting the account, disconnect devices, and manage optional people recognition. Signed-in users can delete their own account in Settings.

Delete data without deleting your account

Sign in, select your workspace, and open Settings → Delete saved data. Administrators can use Purge saved data and confirm DELETE HISTORY to remove saved events, AI observations, image previews, People profiles, consent records and enrolled face references. Devices and accounts remain connected. Ring recordings, separate AutoVision jobs, delivered notifications and deployment backups are not erased by this action. For other data or if you cannot sign in, email help@solodev.com with your username, workspace and requested scope. Do not send passwords.

Delete your account

Sign in, open Settings → Delete account and confirm by typing DELETE. Your account is deleted immediately and you are signed out. Locations you own that nobody else uses are deleted with it, including their devices, saved events and images, people, integrations and API keys; shared locations you own pass to another active member. Subscriptions for locations being deleted are canceled immediately, without an automatic prorated refund; unused paid time is forfeited. Shared locations that transfer to another active member keep their subscriptions. If billing cancellation cannot be confirmed, deletion does not proceed. Original Ring recordings, separate AutoVision jobs, delivered notifications, required billing/legal records, backups and independent providers’ records are handled separately. If you cannot sign in, reset your password from the sign-in page first. On private installations, ask your deployment administrator.

AI processing and model training

SmartDetector uses enabled AI features for inference: producing observations or summaries for your workspace. We do not use Ring images, recordings, event data or derived observations to train or fine-tune AI models, and we do not authorize analysis providers to use that data for model training. This restriction applies whether or not you enable optional AI analysis.

No training opt-out is required because customer Ring data is not used for training. Declining training therefore does not reduce your service or require a paid plan. Optional analysis services have their own processing terms; contact us to identify the providers enabled for your installation before enabling them.

When people can view customer data

You and members authorized in your workspace can view saved event details and available images through the web application and paired displays. Share workspace access and pair TVs only with people you authorize. Images or event details included in notifications may also be visible to people with access to the receiving device.

SmartDetector personnel may access customer data when necessary to investigate a support request, troubleshoot a service problem, address security or abuse, or meet a legal obligation. Such access must be limited to the purpose of the task. We do not use customer footage for public demonstrations or marketing without permission. Enabled service providers process data under their own applicable terms; this policy does not claim that their personnel can never access it.

Reviewing data and opting out

Sign in to review available camera images and event history. Workspace administrators can manage retention and purge saved history using the controls described above. You can withdraw camera sharing through Ring to stop future authorized collection; withdrawing access does not itself erase previously saved history. Use the history purge or account deletion controls for that purpose. Optional people recognition is separate from ordinary event review and requires consent; administrators can manage enrolled people. Contact help@solodev.com for access, correction or deletion requests and questions about disabling configured analysis or notifications.

Changes to AI features and this policy

We will describe material changes to AI capabilities, the data they process or their privacy implications in updated public documentation and this policy, with a revised effective date. When a change requires a new permission or consent, we will request it before enabling that processing. We will use an in-product notice or account contact email for material changes affecting existing users. AI observations are advisory and can be incomplete or incorrect; feature updates are not a guarantee of detection accuracy or emergency response. Contact help@solodev.com to ask which capabilities and analysis providers are enabled for your workspace.

Security and questions

Use an account and devices you are authorized to manage. No service can guarantee absolute security. Contact help@solodev.com to ask about access, correction, deletion, retention, or the providers enabled for your deployment. Private installations are operated by their deploying organization; contact that administrator as well.
